Dr Julia Fishman joins Strata Health to transform patient flow across the health continuum
Calgary, June 2018– Strata Health today announced the appointment of paediatric surgeon and former McKinsey consultant, Dr Julia Fishman, as Chief Medical Officer.
Strata Health’s innovative technology improves the flow of patients across the entire spectrum of health and social care settings. Focusing on intelligently matching health care resources through a dynamic service catalogue to patient need and eReferral, Strata Health provides a fully managed technology solution that delivers significant workflow and system efficiencies.
Dr Fishman will be working with clinicians and key stakeholders from across the care continuum to help innovate and deliver seamless, timely and appropriate care transitions for patients. A consultant and clinician with 15 years’ experience of healthcare and patient flow, Dr Fishman joined Strata Health after recognising the vital role that technology can play in supporting the integrated care agenda globally.
“Ensuring that patients can move in a seamless and timely manner between appropriate care facilities is vital to delivering a high standard of care” she said. “Ultimately, this helps social and healthcare providers improve their services for their local population, whilst reducing waiting times, avoiding inappropriate acute hospital admissions, and reducing delayed transfers of care (DToCs)”.
Across Cumbria and North Lancashire, CCGs implemented the Strata platform and despite a projected 300,000 transitions of care (referrals) per annum, the project has achieved a fully integrated service with over 1,000 pathways across acute, specialist, palliative, community, primary, care homes, social care, mental health and even involved Cumbria County Council, private sector nursing homes and third sector providers such as Age UK. Since its launch, Morecambe Bay Health Partners have achieved a 90% reduction in DToCs (Type A, C and D) and the region has saved over £23 per a referral, which will equate to approximately £7M savings per annum.
After working as a surgeon, Dr Fishman later became a clinical specialist management consultant at McKinsey & Co, where she led the Hospital Transformation Networks. She subsequently accepted a role as Vice President of Clinical Operations at a US-based acute hospital patient flow provider, which successfully implemented several large multi-site NHS hospital providers.
Dr Fishman is currently a trustee of The Chelsea Children’s Charity, a children’s charity that supports better care through funding equipment and resources for babies and children in West London.
“Patients are always at the heart of everything that I do” she added. “When I met the Strata Health team, I was struck by their passion and dedication to this cause”.
Don Schick, Founder and CEO, recognised the value that Dr Fishman would bring to the company’s operations, as well as their global strategy. “Julia’s clinical and consultancy experience contributes to Strata’s ambition of supporting global healthcare networks to deliver more efficient and effective care,” he said. “Julia will provide a critical perspective through the eyes of an experienced clinician to drive Strata’s practical innovation road map.”
